Head of School at the Canadian International School of Beijing and the Canadian International School in Shenyang; AKD Academic Superintendent
Mr. Douglas Prescott is a Canadian educator with more than four decades of experience, and he is currently in his 11th year in Beijing, China.
His experience ranges from being a teacher, counselor, Athletic Director, Vice-Principal, Principal, Founding Principal, Head of School, and Superintendent. In addition, he has a great understanding of the Canadian and IB curriculums.
Mr. Prescott is a proud member of the C21 CEO Academy in Canada, a Pan-Canadian professional network of school system superintendents committed to setting Canadian standards for 21st-century learning, innovation, and technology.
Mr. Prescott has been a keynote presenter at schools, school districts, and international conferences in China and Canada. He also regularly hosts PD and motivational talks for educators from across Beijing.
The school he leads, CISB, has twice been recognized as one of the "Best International Schools" by the Global Times.
Additionally, the school he leads ranks yearly among the top international schools, with IB DP results well above the IB global average. Graduating students are admitted into top universities worldwide each year.

Abass Laouali
Abass is in his 8th year at Dulwich College Shanghai, where he leads the visitor relations and events department. He has previously worked at YCIS in the Admissions and Marketing department, instrumental in redesigning admissions and customer service processes. Abass is passionate about customer experience research, design, and implementation, as well as helping organisations, transform their CX (customer experience) offerings.
Abass holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and an MBA from Durham University Business School.

April Tang
April lived in Singapore for six years. In 2012, she graduated from James Cook University (Singapore campus) with a Master’s in Human Resources Management. Subsequently worked full-time at the university, living and working in Singapore for six years. After returning to China, she worked in several international schools for a few years. She served in various non-teaching roles, such as PA to the foreign principal, director of human resources and operations, and administrative principal. During this time, she was also involved in designing and founding three new campuses. Currently, she is the CEO of New Dimension International Education.
April also has a passion for community service. She founded the Love Enjoy Reading Community Project, dedicated to enhancing literacy by providing books and resources to children in remote areas of China.

Aubrey Curran
Aubrey Curran’s experience in school leadership is many folds; currently, he works as a Head of School at Yoyogi International School in the competitive market of Tokyo, Japan, where he is leading the recovery of a small school in the heart of the city after covid decimated enrollment. Before that, Aubrey was the Whole School Principal at a 3-programme IB school in Nagoya, Japan, and the Middle School Principal at the International School of Port of Spain in Trinidad & Tobago.
Between 2008 and 2016 Aubrey worked in China, at two international schools in Beijing and Suzhou. Aubrey is from the Netherlands and studied at the Education Faculty of Amsterdam, where he graduated in 1999. He has an Advanced Certificate in Management in International Education from the University of Bath. He is fluent in Dutch and English, intermediate in French and has learned some Mandarin. He is a convicted lover of football.

Bella Du
Bella Du is an international school marketer with a talent for coordinating teachers and administrators to complete projects on schedule.
In her six years of experience at the Canadian International School of Beijing, she has handled various marketing projects from promoting campus events, specific grade level content, exterior fundraising campaigns, and the Grade 12 Graduation, among others.
She will share some tips and insight into what she has acquired and learned in the first year of her master’s degree program at King’s College London. One of her main achievements is getting primary to high school teachers to become engaged participants in the marketing process of the school as she strives to brand it as the top international school in the city of Beijing.
When she is not working, she enjoys ball hockey and bicycling and is now taking up a new challenge-golf.

Bella Yang
Bella Yang holds a master's in Education and leadership from the University of Technology Sydney. She has six years of teaching experience in international education with extensive knowledge of language teaching standards and assessment systems. She establishes positive teacher-parent relationships to support student success. Her main strengths include student behavioral management, course planning, and collaborating with teachers, administrative leaders, and support specialists. She also obtained qualifications as a psychological counselor and family education trainer. She has worked with families of many children, guiding parents in language and psychological development for their children.
Bella has several administrative responsibilities, including arranging PDs for teachers, coordinating departmental meetings, editing student reports, and supervising the student council.

In this session, Bella Yang will start with self-management mastery and then launch into time-management skills. Having the ability to manage oneself is the step to organizing time. He has experience teaching the New Zealand, USA, and UK. He has spent the past nine years in Senior Leadership positions, and his prior leadership roles include being a Middle and High School Principal and Associate Director.

Christina Song
Christina Song has worked at the International School of Tianjin for more than 24 years. Currently, she is working on student admissions and overseeing and ensuring the administrative offices run effectively and efficiently. She also serves as the school director’s secretary, assisting him with various administrative tasks, and has been invited to serve as the team facilitator on several CIS/WASC Accreditation Visits to some other international schools.
As the chief translator and the bridge between the school and different clients, including staff, students, parents, visitors, and local authorities, she has communication, collaboration, and mutual understanding skills.

Dan Brown
Dan Brown is Director of Professional Learning and Development at Dulwich College (Singapore) and Head of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. He is also part of the College Leadership Tea. He is responsible for the development of 435 staff, including all our non-teaching staff. Prior to this Dan was Assistant Principal (Teaching and Learning) at SJI International School in Singapore for 10 years. Before coming to Singapore 12 years ago Dan was an experienced school leader from the UK. He is the Chair of the Singapore International Schools Professional Development Network. He is a Regional Representative for the FOBISIA (Federation of British International Schools in Asia) Professional Development Committee. He is married with three children and enjoys football and trying (mainly unsuccessfully) to keep fit.

Ellen obtained a master’s degree in English Linguistic and Literature. She has 15 years of HR experience – six years in a foreign manufacturing enterprise and nine years in international education. In addition, she was in the administrative management including the role of HR of the manufacturing enterprise for five years while she worked as HR. Ellen is now the head of HRD at Yew Chung International School of Qingdao.

Ewen Bailey is an experienced international leader and educator who helps schools to create a culture of collaborative learning that results in continuous, sustainable improvement.
He has directed whole-school professional development for one of China's top IB World schools, where he was responsible for the development of all teaching and non-teaching staff.
During the pandemic, he led an innovative project with England's Department for Education and Oak National Academy that delivered high quality online training resources for thousands of initial teacher trainees and early career teachers.
Originally from the UK, he is married with two children. He enjoys running, watching most sports and reading all sorts of non-fiction.

Connect and Learn: How a Peer Learning Network Will Accelerate Your Learning (English)
There is a lot of untapped expertise in our schools, with many support staff working in isolation. Because of the specialized nature of certain administrative roles, it is very difficult for many administrators to collaboratively learn with colleagues from their own school. Peer Learning Networks give staff in specialized roles an opportunity to meet and learn with peers from other schools in a similar regional context. Ewen Bailey will share how the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS) is ensuring everyone has equal access to continuous professional development that accelerates learning.

Henry Wong
Henry, in addition to being an accomplished editor on interpersonal relationships, he is one of the few administrators who have served in both academic and non-teaching roles in a school. He has more than twenty years of work experience in education based in Singapore, China, and the US. His administrative positions have included Senior Admissions and Marketing Manager, Business Administration Director, and Co-head.
In China, Henry worked in two international schools and one bilingual school with student populations ranging from 220 to 1400. His international schools’ responsibility was to oversee and provide leadership for non-academic functions, including the Admissions & Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Public Relations, IT Help Desk, Facilities Management, Auxiliary Services, Procurement, and Inventory departments. These schools had very culturally diverse teaching and family populations. He published a booklet titled "Preparing Host Country Support Staff for their Roles in International Schools."

Jack Hsu
Jack Hsu is Founder and CEO of Ivy Group International, Inc., an educational company based in Beijing investing and operating K-12 schools. He also serves on the Advisory Board for Columbia Global Center in Beijing. Previously, Jack was a founding partner at MMG Partners, a global management consulting firm headquartered in New York. Before founding MMG Partners, Jack was a consultant at Mitchell Madison Group in the securities practice where he served clients that included bulge bracket banks and exchanges. One of Jack’s early endeavors was with the startup technology company Scopus Technology which went public on NASDAQ in 1994. Jack received his master’s degree in business administration from Columbia Business School, master’s degree in computer science from University of Maryland, College Park, and bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science from University of California, Berkeley. He has also earned a certificate in multiple intelligences from WIDE/Harvard Graduate School of Education. Jack currently lives in Beijing with his wife and son. He is a Fellow of the fifth class of the China Fellowship Program and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.

Katalyn Hu
Katalyn Hu has worked at Suzhou-Singapore International School for 13 years in various academic and non-teaching-related roles. Most recently, her role has been the coordinator of the learning hub. Her center provides opportunities for community learning for students, faculties, and parents, which includes community activities, professional development opportunities, and community events. She takes pride in providing the best customer service possible. As a support staff member, her goals include providing a worry-free service for academic staff for administration work and fostering a culture of lifelong learning on her team.
She was presented an outstanding contribution award for her contributions to the school administration team and the exceptional volunteer of the year for her extraordinary commitment to a safe campus during the COVID pandemic.

Building Positive Relationships at Work: The Key to Success (English or Mandarin Chinese)
Relationships are vital to any student’s success and growth, which also applies to international schoolteachers and non-teaching staff. Students must manage relationships in several areas – at home with their parents, at school with their friends and teachers, and on the sports field with their team and coach, etc. Similarly, local staff members at an international school, in these areas are at home with their families, at school with their colleagues – foreign and local, and off work with their friends. The presenter will discuss the positive building relationships between local staff and their foreign colleagues.

Lucy Bates is a British mother of two boys who has been living in Singapore for the past 12 years. Having shifted around a couple of schools here to begin with, she saw what Nexus was trying to create and settled there for the past decade. While some may find staying in one job not very experiential, this has been quite a journey for Lucy and her team, growing the school roll by a thousand children, designing, building, and relocating the campus and surviving the competition through the global endemic.
Lucy is particularly interested in design experience and everything that comes together to enable families to make their school choice.

Luo Min
Min Luo is a dynamic, compassionate servant leader with 18 years of leadership experience in both China and Germany. She has been the Administrative Director at Qingdao Amerasia International School for nine years, leading a multi-aged, multi-national team. During her time at Amerasia, she and her team have led over 800+ events to foster community and inclusiveness for students and parents. They also have launched initiatives to engage and empower areas in need around Qingdao.
The pandemic has proven difficult, yet the Amerasia Administrative team, with her support, has responded swiftly and has adapted to numerous regulations and policy changes with grace and courtesy. She is also a board member of the Beijing Foreign Study University Alumni Committee of Shandong Province, which organizes monthly events serving the alum group and creating opportunities for newer graduates. In addition, she keeps grounded through mindful practice, reading philosophy, roller-skating, yoga, and spending time with her family and dog.

Michael Iannini is ACAMIS’ Leadership Development facilitator, a Search Associates partner supporting its members in China to improve recruitment, induction, and retention of overseas teachers, and a Council of International School’s (CIS) affiliated consultant with the following areas of expertise: Appraisal and Profession Development, Leadership Training, School Governance, and Strategic Planning.
Michael’s first book, Hidden in Plain Sight: Realizing the Full Potential of Middle Leaders, is the foundation for all his leadership development work. Since writing this book, he launched www.middleleader.com where he is regularly posting articles on school leadership and interviews with school leadership influencers.

The Main Job of a Leader is to Develop Leaders (English)
The most important role that any leader has is to develop leaders. The most effective way to develop leaders is when senior leaders make their own development transparent and actively mentor aspiring senior leaders to participate in and lead whole-school change initiatives. By involving senior leaders in the development of aspiring senior leaders, they contribute directly to a continuum of growth within their school. When senior leadership is engaged, committed, and involved in professional learning, it translates into a culture of learning that sustains itself.

Managing Multiple Priorities (English)
Learn to reduce distractions and prioritize tasks based on strategies popularized by Stephen Covey. Participants will role play communicating their priorities to influence the expectations of others and mitigate potential conflict.
Participants will identify common challenges they faced in their role during the pandemic, in particular unexpected tasks, and new responsibilities. They will then brainstorm possible solutions. Michael will introduce how to ‘Manage Yourself’ and why this is the most effective time management tool. By understanding and being able to clearly communicate your priorities you can much more effectively manage the expectations of others.

In her role as the Facilities and Operations Director, Nicole is responsible for coordinating with the educational and operational school leadership team to provide facility management and key operational services. She enjoys empowering community members to promote sustainability, maintain the school's captivating building, and become active and engaged global citizens.
Nicole is a Certified Facility Manager (CFM) and holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil)/Arts from Monash University. She has over 15 years of international experience in Asia and has been fortunate to work on a number of large-scale construction projects, including Hong Kong Academy’s very own campus.

Maintaining Healthy Buildings: The Role of School Support Staff in Promoting Health, Wellbeing, and Sustainability (English)
The role buildings can play in human health, wellbeing and sustainability has never been more evident or important. Evolving evidence has provided us with a greater understanding of how operational policies and procedures can support cognitive function, physical health, and psychological well-being for our school community. In this presentation, we will share grassroots action and teaspoons of change which are happening in our own communities and discuss how further promoting operational decision making related to air, water, light, comfort, sound, materials, food and cleaning services and community access and safety can create healthy building strategies which put sustainability and people first.

Noel Roberts is the Founder of ZHL Consulting and the developer of ReMynd™, a Remote Assessment and Intervention System designed to provide schools with “On-Demand” Psycho-Educational Assessment and Student Support Services.
This is Noel’s 16th year in China, working in Guangzhou for ten years before moving to Chengdu in 2016 as a founding Assistant Principal of Beanstalk International Bilingual School (BIBS).
His 38 years in education began as a TA, then as a mental health professional with the New York City Public Schools, Administration for Children’s Services, Family Court, Department of Juvenile Justice, and the NYC Mayor’s Office.

Parent Consultation in the Student Support Process (English)
Parent Consultation plays a crucial role in our Services to parents and schools. It is defined as a structured, indirect, collaborative, problem-solving relationship between the health professional (consultant) and one or more parent and/or teacher consultees. Attempts to provide comprehensive mental health services without the support and follow-through by parents or significant others lead to:
Disjointed and fragmented services
Lack of follow-through (generalization)
Unreasonable and wasted intervention effort
We will discuss in depth the importance of parent consultation in the process of successfully supporting student assessments and interventions.

“It Takes a Village to Raise a Child”- This famous saying certainly holds true for the school community. This session helps administrative nonteaching staff learn the benefits of collaborating with the student support department to be better prepared to support families and the development of effective policies and procedures.

Peggy Qi Pan has B.A. in English from Beijing Language University. She has worked at Hangzhou International School (HIS) for 20 years. She started there with the school, which only had 23 students from 3-12 years old. She had covered job descriptions like admissions, operations, procurement, secretaries, school transportation, etc. With HIS getting bigger in student enrollment, her primary focus now is to help the superintendent with the school structure’s administration, ensuring every department is functioning well and serving its best to HIS.

Sophia started her career in education as a Primary School PA in a bilingual school in Beijing, China. She has been promoted as the Executive Office Manager in an international school in Shenzhen, China. She takes charge of executive tasks in the Headmaster’s Office and line manages all the admin support officers (PAs to school heads). She finds it influential and empowered by making good use of the role of support staff.

Taylor Ren supervises the daily non-teaching activities in SSIS, covering multiple functions. He is the Deputy General Manager at the school. Before joining SSIS, Taylor worked for various industries, including Industrial Park Development, Real Estate Development, and other MNCs.
Taylor holds an MSc and BSc in mechanics from Shanghai Jiaotong University. He is also a member of the Shanghai Translators Association and has published many translation works.
