  • Pete has 35 years of experience as a teacher and educational leader. After a brief stint in the corporate world, Pete followed his passion for teaching and never looked back!

Pete’s career in education began as a mathematics teacher at Port Jefferson High School (NY). Representing the United States as a Fullbright Scholar in the Republic of the Philippines, Pete discovered the world of international education. Teaching positions at The American School in Japan, Jakarta Intercultural School, and the International School of Kuala Lumpur soon followed before Pete transitioned to leadership positions. Pete has served as a secondary or high school principal in the USA, Brazil, Italy, and Vietnam. On the director level, Pete served as the Superintendent of Schools for a large education group in Vietnam.

Pete holds a BA in Mathematics from the State University of New York (SUNY) and an MA in Educational Leadership from Columbia University.

Pete assists candidates from Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, Hawaii, and Alaska. Having worked in nine different countries in schools spanning the spectrum from large well established non-for-profit schools to startup proprietary schools, Pete will use his wealth of experience to help candidates successfully obtain teaching positions focusing on best-fit options.

Growing up on the East End of Long Island (NY), Pete is an avid sailor living part-time aboard on his beloved sloop “Prosecco” aptly named in honor of a wonderful experience living in Italy.

Pete is eager to share his love for international education with candidates with the goal of helping them secure positions in high-quality international schools worldwide.

  • Gary MacPhie brings over 30 years of teaching and administrative experience in international schools to his role as a Senior Associate.

Gary started his teaching career in Toronto in 1982, and took his first international teaching position at the Singapore American School in 1988. In 1995, he moved to the Taipei American School and four years later, started his administrative career at International School Moshi, Tanzania (now called UWC East Africa). This followed with principalships at Qatar Academy in Doha, and Elmwood School in Ottawa.

Gary’s last international post was as the Elementary Principal at the American International School of Guangzhou, China where he spent ten years (2007-2017). His wife, Barbara, worked as the Head of Admissions. AISG is the oldest international school in southern China, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

During his time at AISG, Gary’s successes include the introduction of the 1:1 Mac laptop program in Grade 5, designing and implementing a push-in program for EAL and Learning Support and introducing the Reading & Writing Workshop Model for teaching literacy. He also doubled the size of the preschool program. Gary recruited over 100 candidates to China and understands the importance of the onboarding programs for new teachers, and how various incentives and strategies can help with the retention of faculty.

Gary and Barbara have two daughters, who were born in Taiwan and attended international schools in Tanzania, Doha, Ottawa and graduated from AISG. Gary believes in building relationships with the parent community, and as a parent himself, was very involved in school cultural and athletic events.

After 26 years overseas, Gary returned to Toronto, Canada and has been working with Search Associates since 2017.
